Teacher Twilight Session – Play
As part of the Futureland project with Words of Colour and Theatre Peckham, we delivered a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) session for teachers from our two partner schools, led by play expert Amber Ogunsanya-William. The session introduced educators to the power and purpose of play within the classroom, not only as a tool for learning but as a vital component in supporting student wellbeing, creativity and self-expression.
Amber shared insights into the different forms of play and their developmental benefits, particularly for children navigating complex emotions or life experiences. Through practical examples and open discussion, she encouraged teachers to see play as a dynamic and adaptable approach that can enhance their everyday teaching – from structured lessons to more spontaneous moments of exploration.
The CPD created a space for educators to reflect on their own relationship with play and consider how it could be embedded more intentionally in their practice. Teachers left the session feeling inspired and equipped with fresh ideas to bring into their classrooms.
This workshop created space to reimagine creative education by empowering teachers and young people alike to embrace imagination, agency and joy as central to the learning experience.
